About Our Development Band
What is Dev Band?
The Development Band (lovingly known as "Dev Band") is where new and improving players begin their brass band journey.
We’re a community band, proudly Brass Bands England registered, with full safeguarding policies and a dedicated Safeguarding Officer in place.
Open to all ages and all skill levels, it’s the perfect starting point for anyone curious about brass music.
Who Can Join?
- Any age welcome — children, teens, adults and retirees all learn side‑by‑side.
- All skill levels — complete beginners to improving players.
- Instruments available — try different brass instruments before choosing.
- Experienced volunteers welcome — confident players can support learners and help the band grow.
What We Offer
- Free individual or group lessons from experienced musicians (subject to availability).
- Supportive weekly rehearsals that build confidence and ensemble skills.
- A variety of music — film themes, marches, pop arrangements and traditional brass band pieces.
- Informal summer & Christmas concerts to showcase progress in a relaxed setting.
- Opportunities for improving players to join lighter Main Band concerts during summer and Christmas.
- A clear pathway into the Main Band when you’re ready to take the next step.
Brass Band England
As a Brass Bands England registered organisation, we follow recognised standards for governance, safeguarding and community music‑making.
We have robust safeguarding policies and a named Safeguarding Officer, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
